Maihaugen with Astri and Amalie

Got up early, had a long, chatty and nice hotel breakfast. Then off to the main attraction: Maihaugen.. I have not been there since I was a little girl. Amalie had never been there.

We walked around at the outdoor museum for 6 hours. A perfect day!

By the time we had walked back to our hotel, we had been on our feet for 7 hours, apart from a couple of breaks for coffee and lunch. We had an hour of rest in our rooms, and then we walked to the nearest restaurant - which was just a across the street. We got a great table at a quiet place, and had excellent food. And desert was served along with a fancy thingy since the girls had told the waiter I turned 50. This really is the birthday that keeps on giving. We sat eating and talking for almost three hours, and then it was back to the hotel. And again, I phoned Bjørn and then fell into coma.

Meeting Amalie, Benjamin and Svitlana in Oslo

Bjørn drove us to Lillestrøm, and from there he got on a train to his brother in Eidsvoll, while I got on a train to Oslo. One of my pupils this ear, Ukrainian Svitlana needs to practise her spoken Norwegian, and I have asked Amalie if she perhaps could meet her now and then for some Norwegian conversation. I joined in for the first meeting today. We went out for lunch, and sat talking for three hours. I wanted to continue painting the fence when I came back home. It was sunny when I left home. It was sunny in Oslo. It was sunny when I drove home. But ten minutes before I was home, it started raining cats and dogs.

One pitstop on the way home. I was thirsty, and I have a new addiction:

It might rain and be grey, but this is also the month when it is a lush green everywhere. The view from the porch after I came home:

I unpacked the present I got from Svitlana (I can get so used to turning 50!!), and it was Italian wine. Have not had this one before, but Italian reds are a favourite.

So now it will be blogging and reading and a bit of housework until Bjørn comes home.

A perfect 50th birthday

The recipe for a perfect 50th birthday:

Waking up early to a nice morning and a good breakfast prepared by Bjørn.

Doing gardening in the nicest of gardens

Helping Bjørn tend to the bees

Having flowers delivered from Hjørdis

Opening presents from Astri

Going for a walk...

... while Bjørn drove to Askim to buy us sushi

Getting two wonderful presents from Bjørn. A new phone and money to travel. I am really thrilled about both!

A quiet evening with Bjørn and a glass of wine.

Never have I enjoyed a birthday this much!

Saturday 15 June 2019

Oh my.

Went to Oslo today to meet Astri. Oslo was packed with people, it took us ages to get to our restaurant. Astri paid for dinner as a birthday present, and she also sent with me a bag of pressies.

As always we had a wonderful day, and chatted away for hours. Time flew, and suddenly it was on time to go back home. Bjørn picked me up at the railway station, and we stopped for some grocery shopping on the way back home.

I already felt quite spoilt, and then Bjørn came with my 15th birthday-month-present: A white wine with an owl on the label. Gotta love the man.

And now it was time to watch the movie I got yesterday. Great stuff!

Taking it easy

Bjørn did not feel well today, so we had a fairly quiet day. We were out shopping, but that was about it.

And I got my 8th birthday month pressie - a practical garden bucket, that I needed to use right after I got it :) Here right next to the Oregano I planted as seeds a while back.

Proud parents

Got up early because we needed to be in Oslo in time for Amalie's defence of her Master thesis.

While waiting for it, we were introduced to one of her supervisors who told us we should be proud because our daughter is a genius :) We are, and she is.

I understood about 3% of her lecture, but I did fully understand that she is brilliant.

After the lecture, Amalie needed to go to another room and be asked questions about her thesis. In the meantime, Bjørn and I went to have lunch, and we were soon joined by Amalie's friends, which I thought was really sweet. Ida and Yoomin we of course already knew, but Indian Anjin (I think it is. Or was it Anjid?) we met for the first time. They sat with us for an hour, but then had to go before Amalie came back.

When Amalie was done, we drove to where she lives, so she could put the cake from Yoomin in her fridge. And then we walked down to an Indian restaurant and had dinner to celebrate that she has finished her Master studies with great results.

Back home, I got today's birthday month gift. Two beautiful cups. I absolutely love them. And they look good in the cupboard that Bjørn just got us. I feel very spoilt.

Bjørn's bees coming home

While I was at work today, Bjørn made preparations for his bees to come home, and home they came.

And Bjørn was ready

And in the middle of all this, there was still room to give me a 6th birthday month gift

Wednesday 5 June 2019

Thanks, hubby!

How nice to come home after a long workday, and receive yet another birthday month present. This time honey sweets and a honey soap.

Double work

I was at work all day. Meanwhile, Bjørn got the message that he can soon bring home his bee hive. So he drove to the honey central where they sell equipment. They also sell insect hotels, so when I came home in the evening, that is what I got for my fourth birthday month present. Love it!

Sunday 2 June 2019

The 2nd

I was up at 7.30. From the bathroom window, I saw three hares frolicking in the garden. I love this place! I made a cup of coffee and had some water in an attempt to be better at the whole water-drinking thing. Read until Bjørn got up and we had breakfast. My plan was to go straight out to the garden to continue with the fence, and I was ready to go out when I saw the parking lot by the church was full of cars. Marker commune has four churches, so every fourth Sunday, the sermon is held at the church next door. Common decency dictates that I can not work in the vicarage garden while there is one, so going out was postponed for a couple of hours. Bjørn was going out too, so I busted into his study to tell him we could not. And caught him red-handed, preparing another birthday-month present for me. A beautiful old lamp for the library / my office. I can so easily get used to this :) I have never really had any big wishes for my birthday, or wanted to be celebrated in any way. So to make some balance, I have decided that I will enjoy my 50th, and endorse being spoilt.

Sermon over, I went outside where I met Mette, with the ones who sold her the house. We have met them before also, so we had a chat before I went to work on the fence. Bloody hell what a job. It can not have been cleaned or taken care of for the last 20 years. It is quite a task to remove all the dirt and make it ready for painting. Three more hours spent on it today, and I wish there had been more progress. But what is done, is done well. I am not sure I am up to more work on the fence tomorrow. If not, I will see if I can find some time on Wednesday after work.

After those three hours, I was cold, wet and full of dirt. I had a shower, and when I was done, Bjørn had dinner ready. Seldom has salmon tasted better.

Saturday 1 June 2019

This is the month I turn 50.

For someone who uses birthdays and the start of new years as checking points (and what good fortune that I was born in June!), planning hubs and half year reviews, I have a feeling I am going to plan, organise and review the hell out of this month. I know it is just a number, and that dear husband calls it silly numerology, but for me it has importance. My whole life project is a struggle to improve, evolve, become better, learn and constantly work towards having a life I am happier with. My big project over the last five years have been to reach a platform at age 50 on which I will be happy to live the next ten. That is, to have found a way of living, a way of making priorities, a way of being and a way of organising my time that I can use as a base for the years ahead. It was because of the guidelines of that project that I quit my job in Kongsvinger and moved, and that I was the driving force behind moving again when we lived with a madman of a neighbour. There have been very many less visible choices made and preparations done. And now on June 1st, with 25 days to go before the big 50, I am quite happy with how the 5 year project has fanned out. Some adjustment and fine tuning, and a major shift of priorities from work till health is the last thing that needs doing. I have already written a letter of resignation for my second job and will have my last day there on June 18th. After 50, I will definitely be too old not to take good care of myself :)

Today I got out of bed at 7 am. Before noon, I had already tidied a little, taken out the trash, been outside in the rain to tidy up after I trimmed the hedge yesterday, done the exercises from my physiotherapist, put on a washing machine, saved my Hydrangeas from the rain, remembered to drink water and spent more than an hour with my online pupils.

Not to forget that when Bjørn woke up, he gave me a "birthday month present", a thing for the garden that will be nice and decorative for evenings and summer nights:

I did an hour of reading and some more housework while Bjørn did grocery shopping. And though it is June 1st, I eventually got tired of freezing.

Saturday 25 May 2019

Irene, Steinar, Eira, Axel, four of Irene's Albanian friends and me and Bjørn celebrated Irene's 60th birthday here today. I did not take a single picture of the event, but it was a very good evening. The Albanians did not sleep over as they had planned, because their babysitters needed them to come back for their kids. Steinar had terrible back pains, and needed to go home for his own bed also, so in the end we only had three people sleeping over; Irene, Eira and Axel.

Birthday and birds

I tried to make up for Bjørn having to be alone yesterday, by having the birthday celebration today. I got up early and drove down to Ørje to buy some breakfast treats, and then I made us a nice breakfast. I got an SMS that meant I did not have to go into work today, so I stayed at home. My original plan was to go into work quite early, and catch up on all the work I have fallen behind with while I have been ill. But the temptation of just staying at home was too big, so I will have to do that on Monday instead. I already have net pupils on Monday evening, so that means I will both day and evening work five days next week, but that seems to be a prize I am willing to pay.

So, today was about Bjørn. Already 5 minutes after midnight, I told him what his birthday present would be, and I know it is something he has been wanting for a while. Then the breakfast. Then we watched some of his favourite TV-shows together before he went off to Askim to reconnect with an old friend.

While he was gone, I did some housework, and went for a walk. Nice and sunny today.

I also photographed some of the birds at our bird feeding place. There are more birds at the feeding place here than any other place we have lived. And today I even saw the relatively rare Stillits. That was cool.

We have a big delegation of Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Pilfink in Norwegian).

And another big delegation of European Green Finch (Grønnfink)

And quite a few Eurasian Blue Tits (Blåmeis)

And the rare European Goldfinch that I have never seen in real life before (Stillits)

When Bjørn came back, I made us a dinner worthy of a birthday, and we spent the rest of the day in the sofa. We had an early night, since he is arranging a seminar with the autism organisation this weekend, and we need to get up early tomorrow.

Celebrating my birthday

Being 49 continues to be good. We drove in to Oslo where we met up with Amalie to celebrate my birthday. We went to Jaipur which is often my restaurant of choice.

After dinner we went for a stroll, and the walk took us to the Oslo Opera House. I think it is one of the few great buildings in Oslo, and I love to walk on its roof. It was nice to be there as the sun was setting. I had forgotten my camerat at home and my phone camera is not as good, but I took a few pics all the same. Bjørn tok lots of pictures, but in raw, and it will take a while for him to be able to send them in a good format, so it will have to be my pics.

After the Opera House, we went to the hotel we had booked for the night. It is on the main street of Oslo, Karl Johan. And it quite clearly put hipness way above comfort. But we did get some sleep and some rest!

Monday 25 June 2018

So, today I turn 49. One year left till 50. I was up before 6am, and was showered and ready for the world by 7am. I am spending most of the day alone in the basement, which has made for an absolutely perfect day. Bjørn has things to do all day, including the bee-keeper course. We will go out later.

The last four years have been quite nightmarish, and now I only have one year left before I am 50. I want this year to be a good one.

In the evening, my family came down here, sang the birthday song for me, and I was invited up where Jørgen had made a birthday cake for me.

It was a very good start of my life as 49.

Celebrating Amalie's birthday!

We met up with Amalie in Oslo and went to a Persian restaurant for dinner. Four hours passed in a heartbeat.

Saturday 21 April 2018

Birthday party at Joanna's!

Joanna had invited a bunch of girls for her birthday. Well, I guess the right word is "women" now. Many of them said yes. We were 24 people in her very small living room. It was an intimate and very, very funny day with birthday songs in all sorts of languages, enough Polish food to feed several armies, and a lot of healthy laughter. I was among the last to leave, and had an excellent evening!

Saturday 14 April 2018

Mum turns 75

We celebrated at the place "Privaten" in Hurum. It was a great evening, and mum really enjoyed herself.

Birthday celebrations in Oslo

What a perfect day this has been.

Bjørn came here in the afternoon, we spent some time talking with Anja and Espen, and then we drove to Oslo. We were there a little early, visited the store "Outland", but without buying anything. Then, since it was bloody cold, we walked to the restaurant and asked if we could sit and have a cup of coffee, though we were half an hour earlier than announced. It was the first time we were at the Italian place "Baltazar". I have read a lot about it and knew it was supposed to be very good, so I had booked a table here for me, Bjørn and Amalie. When Amalie came, we ordered food, and we had a lovely evening. Such a cosy place, and the food was beyond words. At least on the top ten list of the best meals I have ever had. We could not have wished for a better place to have a birthday dinner. Amalie took some pictures along the way, and I have stolen them.

And finally one I took

We walked from the restaurant to the Concert house where we had tickets to see Jethro Tull and their 50 year anniversary tour. It was excellent, and I enjoyed every second of it. I also met a former colleague from Øvrebyen who i had not seen in 5 years. She told me that all the teachers of Norwegian who were there had quit, except for Hjørdis. And all the new ones who had started, had also quit. So now they were on their next generation of teachers of Norwegian, and they would undoubtedly quit as well. They really do need to do something about the work load for teachers of Norwegian... Anyway, back to the concert. I have never listened to Jethro Tull before, so their music was new to me, except for the tune "Heavy horses". I still had a very good time, as did Amalie who no doubt was one of the youngest there.

After the concert we walked together to the tube where Amalie said goodbye, and me and Bjørn drove to Ås. He slept over here, which means he could have a glass of the whisky that Amalie had got him for his birthday :)

Birthday party!

Anne celebrated her 50th birthday today, and Bjørn and I were invited. Unfortunately Bjørn was not feeling well, so I went there alone. Five other people from work were there, and we all sat at the same table. It was such a nice evening, and I was not back home till 1am.
