A perfect 50th birthday

The recipe for a perfect 50th birthday:

Waking up early to a nice morning and a good breakfast prepared by Bjørn.

Doing gardening in the nicest of gardens

Helping Bjørn tend to the bees

Having flowers delivered from Hjørdis

Opening presents from Astri

Going for a walk...

... while Bjørn drove to Askim to buy us sushi

Getting two wonderful presents from Bjørn. A new phone and money to travel. I am really thrilled about both!

A quiet evening with Bjørn and a glass of wine.

Never have I enjoyed a birthday this much!

Odense and Langeland

First today, the beautiful town of Odense. We strolled around in the historical part of town, and explored Hans Christian Andersen's Odense.

We had not eaten since breakfast, but were in hurry to get to Church on time (!!!), so we settled for an Easter treat....

It is Sunday, it is Easter, and we are in the town where Thomas Kingo once was bishop. Between our hotel and downtown Odense, we had walked past Thomas Kingo's Church (not the one on the pictures, that must have been where he was bishop), and we had seen online that they had an Easter passion concert that included Bach, Brahms and a choir. We went there, and listened to some amazing music and some truly wonderful voices.

There was more left of the day, and we wondered what to do. Bjørn went online, found a map, and said there was an island in the south connected to the Fyn mainland by a bridge, and that we could go there. He started driving while I googled to see what we should do and see on Langeland. And there was one thing that stood out: Langeland had wild horses! Now that is something neither of us thought we could find in Scandinavia, and of course that was what we wanted to see. So I guided us towards the nature reserve where they should be found.

On the way to Langeland, we drove past so many places with crazy names. Some of them crazy because they had funny meanings in Norwegian, like "Tullebølle" (Silly bully)

Others because they meant the same crazy thing in Danish as in Norwegian. The most dubious one being "Ball of semen"

Once we had parked, the first thing we noticed was the birdlife. Birds everywhere, and large flocks of them flying over our heads. After some minutes of searching, we found the entrance point to the reserve. As everything else in Denmark, it was flat. A huge field of grass, and at the far end, the sea. I had read that there was a hill you should walk up to have an overview and look for the horses. In a flat landscape, even the smallest of hills stand out, so it was easy to see where we should go. We walked up the hill, and from there we could indeed see the wild horses of Langeland. And then a huge flock of birds came and landed in the nearby trees. They were quite big to be sitting on branches, and I think it looked really cool. We walked down the hill towards the sea, and walked about for a bit. It is so cool how we sometimes find pearls like this - just by completely randomly going somewhere.

We said goodbye to birds and horses, and planned on going back to the hotel. But google talked about a "Dovns klint", and signs pointed in that direction. Out of curiosity, we drove on. We came to a parking place with a path leading down to the sea. At first we said we were tired and that we did not want to do more walking just to see more sea. But then we thought that after all we are here now, and we should do as much as possible while we have the chance. We were glad we did. We walked down to a charming place where lots of people were fishing. A path to the right let us see a light house in the distance. And then walking down to the people fishing, we discovered w could continue along the shore on a path around the cliff. While walking there, the sun set, and it was all really beautiful.

It was midnight before we were back at the hotel. We had not eaten much, so we grabbed some food from the local petrol station and had a snack before going to bed.

Ups and downs

I felt a little down this morning and shared my frustration with Bjørn. So he joined me for a walk. Brought my camera, and had a good time.

Hedge. Snow. Sky.

Rødenes Church

Winter still.

The beach.

Bet the trees long for spring.

When we came home, our neighbour-to-be was there with her dog, Buddy.

He came running through the snow as fast as his Corgi legs could carry him.

Quite a little charmer!

Fed the birds, photographed some of them. We have hordes.

After the walk we had lunch and did some things at home. Life was better by the time I went to bed....

Darned cough

Fell asleep haf an hour past midnight. Woke up again at 2.30am because breathing passages were blocked. A moment of panic, and then a lot of coughing. I gave up on sleep, and stood up. Eventually fell asleep in a chair, and has been waking up with regular intervals for a bit of coughing.

Had breakfast with Bjørn at 8am before her went to work. After work, he and Kjetil will go to Hedmark to pick up their cars which have been there for a while. Meanwhile I am staying home, trying to get more things done, and coughing constantly. I have been quite effective, but I am so tired of all this coughing.

Went for a walk before it got dark today.

Winter holidays

It is good that this week is holidays. I am so far from being well, and have spent most of the night coughing. Bjørn is off to work again, today it will be from 11.30am till 7pm, so he has full days. This means we can not do anything together this winter holiday, but that is just as well. It is so much cooler that he has a job to go to, and with the way I am feeling now, I need all the rest I can get, to be ready for work again.

Like yesterday, I have been moving slowly, but I do get things done. I made dinner for Bjørn, so he got a meal when he came back home. In the evening I went for a walk again. Last week was such a setback, and my lungs hardly have any breathing capacity at all. Walking after dark with a headlight can be quite cool.

There was a beautiful full moon, and quite a few stars in the sky. I like living where there is not so much light from people, it really makes for some outstanding night skies. This evening, Arctutus shone particularly bright. It is fitting that it does outside this house where there lives a bear.

Back inside, my cough gathered strength. My stomach muscles are so sore from all this coughing.

Sunday 3 February 2019

Getting to know the new neighbour.

A quiet day at home, getting lots of things done. And then we were invited over to our new neighbour Mette for coffee and cake. What a friendly, social, sweet and cool woman she is! We ended up being there for a couple of hours, and I already feel that she is a good friend. She has a lovely Corgi named Buddy, and when she moves in permanently in May, she is going to bring a couple of horses also. Talk about a radical change in living situation from the hell we spent almost 5 years in!

A 2 km walk ensured that I still have gone for a walk every single day of 2019 so far.

Wednesday 23 January 2019

Had a doc's appointment today. The ear infection still will not go away, and it is painful and bothersome. A new doc this time since my own was not available. He sent a requisition to a new specialist. I got an SMS later in the afternoon from the specialist, saying he had time to see me on March 27th. I will not be able to wait that long, so I will need to find another way. After the doc's appointment, I went for my walk in Ørje.

Sunday 20 January 2019

A 7km walk

Getting lots of things done today, included a wonderful 7 km walk in a beautiful winter landscape.

Saturday 19 January 2019

Winter wonderland...

Moving forward with the house project, it really is becoming the perfect home now. It will take a lot of time still, but it is coming along, and turning into the perfect home.

Today's walk took me into the forest and on snowfilled paths where it was difficult to walk.

Monday 14 January 2019

Being madly effective.

Getting lots of things done. Lost another kilo. And walking 6km. It is still winter.

Wednesday 9 January 2019

Joanna's new home

After my daylessons and evening lessons with Hafiz, today's walk was up to Joanna's new apartment. Two cups of tea and an evening chat before I drove back home. That was a nice way to get the walk done!

Monday 7 January 2019

Starting 2019's second week.

The first one went fairly well. I lost a kilo, which was good, and I have walked every day. Today the walk needed to be in the morning since I had to go into work in the evening. It was foggy and uninviting outside. I walked 3.7 km.

The evening work was a get-together for our online pupils. It is useful to get to see them now and them.

Sunday 6 January 2019

A quiet day. Walking 2 km down to beautiful Tjuvholmen.

Saturday 5 January 2019

So much pain tonight that I hardly slept, and a migraine came creeping. When the alarm bell rang for me to get ready to go to Joanna and help her out with her new apartment, I soon realised I had to throw in the towel and tell her I could not make it. Strong pain killers and a hope that it eventually will get better has got me through the day. And of course my never ending optimism :)

A pice of interesting news - today the neighbour house here was bought, and we will get a neighbour! Since the neighbour house is so very close, we have been curious and perhaps even a little worried about what sort of people will move in there. The one who bought it seems to be the woman who came here knocking at our door right after Christmas. A retired woman who wants to breed the Norwegian horsebreed "Fjording", and she wants to have some dogs. She comes from Hurum like me, though she has lived in the American wilderness for many years She seemed both very nice and very interesting and I look forward to having her as my neighbour. I am glad it was her, she seemed cool.

Bjørn has spent most of the day in Sarpsborg with Monica and Kjetil. Monica (Kjetil's girlfriend) will close her second hand store, so she needs to get rid of everything there, and she lets us have a look first to see if there is anything we want. I wish I could have come with him to have a look, but I am not able to sit in a car today.

I did a 3.2 km walk, but it was not much fun.

Friday 4 January 2019

Being the best me.

This year, the start of a new year really gave a boost. I think it is because this time the conditions are good for making this a year that matters and a year of positive change. At work today I had an SMS from my evening pupil who said he could not come because he was ill. So I left work a little earlier than usual on a Friday. I had brought clothes for the gym, and I dropped by the gym on my way home.

I was there for one and a half hour, and after the gym, I walked for a km outside to keep up the resolution of walking every day.

One thing that me and Bjørn talked about earlier was how we need to stop saving and putting aside for later things we buy or get that it seems to extravagant to use. Because too often we end up throwing away such things if they are edible, and we end up not using them at all if they are things. This evening we applied our new philosophy to a bottle of sparkling Martini that we got from Joanna when we moved in here.

Wednesday 2 January 2019

2019th's first the second!

Once again I was up early. We wanted to do something together, but were not full of energy, so we settled for driving to Ski to see if there was something interesting at the New Year's sale. We did not find much of interest, but I did find some woollen slippers to wear on the rather cold floor here at the vicarage. We also had lunch there, which was nice.

Living up to my resolution of getting out for a walk every day. I walked 3 km. today.

Sunday 30 December 2018

Walking on ice

Bjørn and I went for a walk. It was very icy, and Bjørn fell a couple of times and hurt his back, so the walk was cut short because he was in pain. We took some pictures along the way, and until he fell, it was a nice walk.

Thursday 8 November 2018

Misty morning walk.

Following up on my plan to walk before work on Thursdays and Fridays. The rest of the day was work as usual, but the morning was exceptional. Too bad I only had my phone camera.

Tuesday 24 July 2018

Power to the people!

Fell asleep late, woke up late. Showered, had breakfast. Walked Jazz for 8.6 km. So warm that we simply were not able to walk any longer.

Back here, another shower and then I drove to Ørje. Met Bjørn and had a nice lunch together at the boat cafe and then I went to the post office to pick up my much missed power supply. Drove back to Ås (love the new car!) and have been doing a little of this and a little of that.

Jazz is being her own very strange self.

And after she in her very Mrs. Evil genius way had managed to open my sack, pull out the goodies I bring for her on on our walks, had brought them to my bed and lied there eating them all up, I decided it was on time for her to go upstairs and sleep in her own bed for a little while. This was her a few minutes later:

Monday 23 July 2018

A dog? An Alien? Hard to tell.

Our main walk today was only 5km, but it is so hot that it is a little overwhelming for me and doggie both. I do bring water - without it, we had not lasted more than a kilometer or two.

We are exploring the new forest behind Espen and Anja's new house. Many nice paths.

Have been very sluggish today, I think it is because of the crazy warmth. We have not had a summer like this in my lifetime.

At times I do wonder if Jazz really is a dog... or if she is something more ... alien.

Bjørn was at the beekeeper course today, and his bees are doing great and behaving well. I bought a jar of honey at the store today to honour his efforts :)
